Making Syrup is one of our favorite fundraisers.
 
Granville Kiwanis has been making maple syrup from local trees in Granville since 1962. We invite the community to see how we make syrup at Loudon Crest Farms in Granville. Loudon Crest Farms has been making their own syrup for over 100 years.
 
Our season start fluctuates depending on the weather. We tap trees, collect and boil sapwater when we have a continual cycle of temperatures above and below freezing. 
 
Schools, families and individuals are welcome to tour the Sugar Shack at Loudon Crest Farm. Email or call us to schedule an appointment, or just stop by when you see the steam rolling! 
 
We sell the syrup year-round and serve it at our annual Pancake Day!

Pure Maple Syrup is a perfect gift for friends and family! It's also a novel way to say "Thank You" and share your support of a worthwhile cause! Hurry while supplies last! This year's sap production turned out to be above normal, despite being delayed by the unusually late record-low cold temperatures. With the support of Kiwanian Bob Warner, our boiling process benefited from use of his updated evaporator system at his families' historic Loudon Crest Farm sugar shack on Loudon St. If you drove by the 'sugar shack' at night in March, you would have seen the steam rolling from the boiling sap water and perhaps a few sparks from the super hot firewood. A few folks stopped by when we were collecting sap from our educational buckets at Welsh Hills and Granville Elementary School, and more while we were boiling at the sugar shack. Everyone must experience the steam-filled sweet smell of fresh maple syrup at least once in their lifetime. Before the season ended, students from Welsh Hills School and Granville Elementary visited the sugar shack and witnessed the entire process, sweet steam and all! A few families tapped their own maple trees and collected sap water with us, producing their own pure maple syrup! Don Lewis and our volunteers led a "Tap Your Tree Maple Syrup Class" to help local families make their own syrup. Tapping season depends on the weather, but it usually occurs in February.
